DOQQ



A DOQQ is a computer-generated image of an aerial photograph in which image displacement has been removed. This image is a 1m DOQQ subset image of Washington DC which means it is a UTM projection with a 1mm reolution.

Scatterplots use dots or points to display to display values for two variables of a data set. This scatterplot shows the correlation between age and maximum hear rate in relation to heart disease.

Climograph is used to display the climate of an area. They show climograph shows the monthly temperature and precipitation of a certain place in the world at a given period of time.

Parallel coordinate graph


These types of maps use parallel coordinates to visualize statistics. A parallel coordinate graph is used to plot large multivariate datasets. Each variable in the data plot is represented as its own Y Axis on the graph. This map represents baseball statistics.

Histograms display and compare data using side-by-side bars, using height to show differences. This histograms shows salary differences for a company. You can see that the majority of employees make between $21,00.00 and $4,290.00 a year.

Box plot


Box plots displays data using thier five-number summries. They are broken down into the Smple Mnimum, Quartile 1, Quartile 2, Quartile 3, and Sample Maximum. You can see that the median score is about 14, with a minimum value you 2 and a maximum value of 24.

Stem and leaf plot


A stem-and-leaf plot is a display that organizes data to show its shape and distribution. Each data value is split into a stem and a leaf the leaf represents the last digit of the number and the other digits to the left of the leaf form the stem, making a multi-digit number.

A Similarity matrix shows the similarity between two data points. The more similar data is, the more similar they are in color in the matrix.

Standardized choropleth map


Data in choropleth maps are standardized to show the comparison of distribution in different areas. The standardized information in this map is population by ares (square mile) in the US. The darker the shade of blue the higher the population in the image, making NY the state with the highest population.

Univariate choropleth map


Univariate choropleth maps displays a single set of data in a map. The single set of data displayed in this map is Hay harvested by acre in the US in 2002. According to this map the largest number of hay harvested was concentrated in the North West.

This map compares two sets of data on one map, usually using differnt colors or symbols to display the display the data. This map shows life expectancy and land use in Africa in 1989. A pie chart and a choropleth map are used to display the two kinds of data.

Unclassed choropleth map


Unclassed choropleth maps use a technique of assigning shadings proportional to the data values without classifying the data it's displaying. This map shows the flsh density of the US between 1995 and 2006, using different shades to show the values. You can see that the highest density occurs mainly in Florida and the further you get from it the lower it is.

Classed choropleth maps


This classed choropleth map hows the percent of Hispanics living in Florida, based off of information taken from the US census. This map is divided by county and the different percentages are shown through different color shades. The highest concentration is in South Florida, mainly Miami-Dade county which is not surprising due to its relative closeness to Cuba, and other Hispanic countries in South America.

Star plot


The star plot is a method of displaying multivariate data. This map shows the crime rates of some major US cities. The larger the image the more crime, showing that LA has the highest crime rates of these cities.

Statistical maps display the statistics distribution in an area. This map displays the statistics of the crime rates of Denver, Colorado. Flow maps often show movement of an object from one place to another. This map shows the movement of freight trucks out of Texas. This shows that the main concentration of freight trucks leaving Texas stay within the state the surrounding states, but travel all around the country.

Proportional circle maps use circles as a scale to display data. This map shows the concentrations of different major industries in East Germany.

Choropleth maps are based on predetermined units, such as city or state boundaries. This map shows the population of Africa divided by country. You can see that the countries in the most northern and the most southern parts have the highest populations.
